I made Australia my new home from Sudan, Africa where I completed my degree and worked as a Veterinary Surgeon. At that time I was not aware of what a Concierge was nor of Les Clefs d’Or.
In 1994 I commenced employment at Novotel Darling Harbour as a Room Attendant (my first brush with Hospitality) and quickly progressed to Housekeeping Supervisor.
Whilst I was watching this new environment around me I focused on the Front Office team and in particular the Concierge department. Within time I was able to transfer as the Commissionaire. Taking it step by step I progressed to Bell Captain/Assistant Concierge through to Night Audit then reception at Mercure Grand Apartments.
Finally in 2000 I was promoted to Chief Concierge/Guest Relations Manager at Mercure Grand Apartments just prior to Sydney Olympic games. During this time I completed a Hospitality Management Diploma with East Sydney TAFE.
In 2005 I approached Mr. Nick Bocock, Head Concierge at the newly refurbished Sydney Hilton Hotel for the position of Concierge, and was successful in joining his preopening team and remained with the Hilton for a period of 2 and half years.
It was in 2005 while at the Hilton that I acquired my membership in Les Clefs d’Or. I then moved to Swissotel Sydney as Assistant Chief Concierge for about 20 months.
Currently, I am employed by Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport as Chief Concierge.
I gain much enjoyment working as a Concierge. I take great pride in looking after all my guests in the best possible way through advising them where to go and what to do in Sydney. I have always admired my fellow Concierge and enjoyed their company and networking during our bimonthly dinners and meetings, and all relevant workshops.
