Sofitel Brisbane Central
Even from an early age I had held an interest in hospitality and tourism, and started my career working in cafes in Melbourne before eventually managing a number of restaurants as a front-of-house / maitre’d on the northern coast of NSW.
It was here that I commenced a degree in a Bachelor of Business in Tourism, further developing my passion for the service industry. After a number of years of study I travelled extensively overseas prior to settling in Canada for 12 months, where I started my career in the beautiful Banff Springs Hotel.
It was in Canada that I realised my ambition was to continue my career in hotels and after coming back to Australia I began working at the Sheraton, Brisbane in the concierge department, where I soon became a supervisor.
After a number of years the Sheraton property changed to the Sofitel, and I have been at this property now for nearly 10 years.
The pinnacle of my career so far was when I became a Les Clefs d’Or member in early 2010. This recognition of my passion and experience within the hotel industry has given me a great sense of pride in my position, and has further enhanced my abilities as a concierge and the love of my job.
As a concierge I have always felt that my role is to be the friendly face of the hotel and really connect with the people who choose to stay with us. I have always enjoyed making every guest’s experience a memorable one and love the opportunity to make a really positive difference to their time with us.
By ensuring that I am available to help them in any way I can, and often going above and beyond my normal day-to-day duties is where I think the benefit and true essence of a concierge lies. If the guest can leave our hotel having a truly special and unique experience in which I played even a small part, then I have fulfilled my role as concierge and it’s definitely what I love to do.
