I am an accidental concierge – my career began while working in hospitality during an around the world backpacking trip in 1987. I had the good fortune to work in a small Sydney hotel and after a stint at a summer lodge in the heart of the Canadian Rockies I was hooked. Upon returning to Sydney in 1988 I took up a porter position at the Hyde Park Plaza which began my 17 year career with Mirvac Hotels, mostly as Chief Concierge at the Sydney Marriott.
To further my professional development I joined the Hilton Sydney’s re-opening team as Chief Concierge. After two years I moved into the corporate concierge field where I spent three years creating a ‘best practices’ manual for concierge, hospitality and frontline customer service professionals, along with a general half-day customer service workshop.
As well as my concierge position at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth I contribute to the Les Clefs d’Or Interview, Tourism Expo and Scavenger Hunt committees.
Being a concierge is a privilege and every day I do my utmost to provide professional, personal and friendly customer service. I enjoy the sense of anticipation whenever guests approach me for assistance – being entrusted with all manner of guest requests remains one of my great motivators. I take great pleasure and inspiration working with, and for, a diverse range of colleagues and guests – for me the day the fun goes out of being a concierge will be the day I hang up my gold crossed keys.
