In January 2009, I experienced one of the proudest days of my life when I was presented with my keys of Les Clefs d’Or. It was in front of my family, colleagues and industry peers, that I was officially welcomed into this prestigious society, a summation of a lifetime thus far in the service industry.
It started with my first job at Target selling shoes!!! Yet it wasn’t the product but the experience of being needed and the value of the service I could offer that provoked my interest.
My career progressed during the ‘90’s to Myer Melbourne as I entered the exciting new world of mobile phones. Selling mobile phones from the size of a briefcase to a size of a matchbox, I rode the mobile phone “boom” for 8 years, After which, I felt the bust and I opted for a return to service.
In 2003, I joined the Westin Hotel Melbourne, Starting as a porter, my ambitions were quickly realized when industry legend and Chief Concierge, John Elmas took me on as his assistant. Through his mentorship, I had found my calling.
I now proudly belong to a group of professionals who live by the credo “in service through friendship”, In developing these relationships, with concierges both locally and abroad, it is amazing how much it helps me to meet the needs of my guests, and that is truly the most rewarding aspect.
I love to encourage my guests to discover new and different ways to explore our fair city of Melbourne. I like to think I know her pretty well, but she is a marvellous chameleon, and I enjoy trying to keep my knowledge up to date.
I live every day following my passion and doing what I love and I hope my enthusiasm for the profession of concierge encourages others to follow the same path.
