About Allan…

I was looking for a career change when a friend asked me if I was interested in washing dishes for the Renaissance Hotel. At the interview I was given the option of washing dishes or joining the Bell team. I knew that I liked helping people and thought I might prefer to carry bags than wash dishes.

I started as a bellman, then after a few months was asked to join the valet parking team where I was definitely in my element having the opportunity to drive many of my favourite sports cars – slowly and very carefully though, of course! I was then offered a job as Commissionaire, and while I may possibly have been the shortest Commissionaire in the world, I really enjoyed greeting our guests with a warm smile on arrival and leaving them with a great impression on their departure.

Out of the blue, I was offered the opportunity to cross train at the Concierge desk, although I was a little hesitant at first as I felt I did not know a lot about the Concierge area and at the time was more than happy working on the driveway. However after a period spent training at the Concierge, I gained an insight into our beautiful city and the importance of making a guest’s stay memorable. I was then offered a full-time job at the Concierge desk and have not looked back since.

I still find a great sense of professional satisfaction whenever a guest comes back to tell me that they have enjoyed a tour we have recommended, an amazing dinner, or perhaps appreciated my assistance in obtaining them tickets to a sold out show.
It is an absolute honour to be a member of Les Clef d’Or and with time I aspire to be one of the most respected and recognized concierges in Australia. I also look forward to being able to teach others the skills needed to deliver exceptional customer service with a warm and genuine smile.
